What is a trunnion mounted fixed ball valve?

Trunnion mounted fixed ball valves are engineered for high pressure and large diameter pipelines. Compared with floating ball valves, the ball is locked in place via the upper valve stem and lower trunnion shaft. It merely rotates for opening and closing without drifting when pressure applies. The trunnion structure takes most fluid pressure load, effectively lowering friction on the sealing seat. This design makes fixed ball valves much more stable and durable for long-term continuous industrial operation.

What is the difference between fixed ball valve and floating ball valve?

This is the most frequently asked question by global buyers. The core difference lies in the ball supporting structure and pressure bearing mode.

Floating ball valves have no lower trunnion support. When the pipeline pressure rises, the medium pushes the ball tightly against the downstream seat. This creates large friction, high operating torque and fast seat wear. Floating types are only suitable for small size and low to medium pressure working conditions.

Fixed trunnion ball valves fix the ball in position. The pressure load is undertaken by the trunnion shaft and body bearing, not the sealing seat. It features low operating torque, slight seat abrasion, stable sealing performance and longer service life. For DN100 / NPS4 and above large-bore or high-pressure pipelines, fixed ball valves are always the first choice in industrial engineering.

Should I choose soft seal or metal seal fixed ball valve?

It depends on your pipeline medium and working temperature. Soft-seated fixed ball valves adopt PTFE or RPTFE sealing, achieving bubble-tight zero leakage. They are ideal for clean water, gas and normal-temperature oil medium with strict sealing requirements.

Metal hard-sealed fixed ball valves can adapt to high temperature, high pressure and medium containing tiny solid particles. The metal-to-metal sealing structure is wear-resistant and high-temperature resistant, widely used in harsh petrochemical and high-temperature pipeline conditions.

Can fixed ball valves be equipped with electric or pneumatic actuators?

Yes, fully customizable. Our fixed ball valves can be matched with manual gear operation, pneumatic actuators, electric actuators and hydraulic actuators. Thanks to the trunnion support structure, the operating torque is much lower than floating ball valves. It can effectively reduce the configuration cost of actuators and ensure more stable automatic opening and closing operation.
