How do I know if the manual butterfly valve is open or closed?

Handle Position:

The easiest way to identify the status of a manual butterfly valve is by checking the handle direction. When the handle is parallel to the pipeline, the valve is fully open; when it is perpendicular, the valve is fully closed.

Indicator Plate:

Many valves are equipped with an indicator plate marked from 0° to 90°. A reading of 0° means the valve is closed, while 90° indicates it is fully open, allowing quick visual confirmation.

Stem Position:

The manual butterfly valve stem rotates together with the internal disc. When the stem direction aligns with the flow, the valve is open; when it is across the flow direction, the valve is closed.

Wafer Type:

For wafer type valves installed between flanges, internal parts are not visible, so the position is usually judged by the handle or the indicator plate on the top.

Lug Type:

Lug type valves typically have clearer mounting structures and markings, making it easier to determine the open or closed status through the handle position or indicator display.
