Gate valves are built to different standards, depending on where and how you’ll use them. For heavy industrial and oil & gas projects, API 600 is the most widely adopted standard. It governs valve design, material choices and pressure tests. ISO 6002 is another international standard matching API 600 for bolted bonnet steel gate valves, while we also follow China’s GB/T 12234 national standard. All these standards define size, performance and safety requirements, to guarantee proper installation and stable long-term operation.

Could you explain what the API 600 standard covers?

API 600 is an industrial standard released by the American Petroleum Institute. It mainly applies to bolted bonnet steel gate valves, which are widely used in refineries, oil & gas pipelines and other harsh working conditions. This standard regulates material selection, structural design, production procedures and various pressure & tightness tests. It ensures every valve can steadily withstand high pressure, high temperature and complex media in actual field operation. If a gate valve meets API 600, it’s built to last in critical, demanding setups.

What kind of material is WCB for valve bodies?

WCB is a common cast carbon steel grade under ASTM A216, short for “Weldable Grade B Cast Carbon Steel.” It’s one of the most popular choices for valve bodies because it balances strength, weldability and cost really well. WCB works for most general industrial uses, including water, oil, gas and steam lines, and handles temperatures from -29°C up to about 425°C. It’s durable, easy to cast into complex shapes, and works with a wide range of pressure ratings.

Which type of gate valve is most widely used in the industry?

The wedge gate valve is by far the most common type in industrial pipelines. It has a wedge-shaped disc that slides between two seats to open or close the flow, creating a tight seal when fully shut.
