What is a GB Gate Valve Used For?

GB gate valves follow Chinese national standards and are mainly installed to fully open or fully close pipeline flow. They’re widely seen in urban water supply, heating systems, power plants, general chemical pipelines and fire protection piping. These valves are ideal for mediums like water, steam and non-corrosive oil, mostly applied in domestic projects and markets that adopt GB industrial standards.

How Are They Built?

The whole valve is produced in strict accordance with GB drawing standards. The main body is usually cast carbon steel or ductile iron, paired with an integrated flange end for pipe connection. Inside sits a solid wedge gate plate matched with metal or soft sealing surfaces. It comes with a valve stem, handwheel and bonnet assembly; all dimensional parameters, wall thickness and pressure test rules fully comply with GB specifications.

How Do GB Valves Differ from ANSI/DIN Valves?

The biggest gap lies in design standards and dimensional systems. GB valves use metric sizing, while ANSI adopts inch-based dimensions and DIN follows European metric standards. Their flange hole layouts, wall thickness requirements, pressure class marking and inspection testing criteria are not interchangeable. GB gate valves fit domestic Chinese standard pipes; ANSI and DIN versions match overseas pipeline systems, so they cannot be directly replaced with one another on site.

Are They Good for Throttling (Adjusting) Flow?

No, they are not suitable for flow regulation at all. This gate valve only works properly at fully open or fully closed positions. If you leave it partially open, the fast-flowing medium will continuously wash and scratch the wedge sealing face, which quickly causes leakage. Partial opening also triggers pipeline vibration and water hammer that damages the whole piping system. Choose a globe valve if you need to adjust flow volume.

What Are the Core Structural Details?

It features a full port straight-through flow channel to cut flow resistance to a minimum. The core sealing part is a solid wedge gate, providing tight two-way shutoff. Flanged connection is standard for easy installation and later maintenance. Customers can pick rising stem or non-rising stem types based on installation space. Sealing options include metal hard seal for high temperature/steam and soft seal for clean water medium.
