What’s the structural and performance gap between metal hard seal and soft seal gate valves?

Hard seal gate valves block fluid by metal touching metal; their wedges and seats are coated with Stellite alloy. Soft seal types use rubber or PTFE soft lining to seal. Hard seal models can handle extreme heat and high pressure, but soft liners will warp or break down at high temperatures. Soft seal valves seal much better at normal temperature, though their soft inner parts wear fast when hot media passes through. Hard sealing surfaces are scratch-resistant but demand higher machining accuracy during production.


What kinds of working pipelines rely on hard seal gate valves?

These valves fit lines transporting high-temperature steam, hot oil, pressurized gas and hot flue gas. Typical application areas cover thermal power stations, petrochemical refineries, metallurgical factories and boiler heating systems.


What key strengths do metal hard seal gate valves have?

They work steadily under high heat and pressure, conditions that soft seal valves can’t withstand. The Stellite metal overlay stands up well to rushing, abrasive media, so the valve lasts much longer. Its full straight bore barely blocks fluid flow, perfect for pipelines that only fully open or fully shut off. It also meets fire safety standards for industrial sites.


What drawbacks do hard seal gate valves have?

Making them needs fine machining work, so they cost more than soft seal versions. At regular working temperatures, they cannot seal as leak-free as soft seal valves. Constant back-and-forth opening and closing scrapes the metal sealing faces little by little, and sealing will get worse over years of use. They are also heavier and bulkier than soft seal valves of the same size.
