What’s the structural and performance gap between metal hard seal and soft seal gate valves?

Hard seal gate valves block fluid by metal touching metal; their wedges and seats are coated with Stellite alloy. Soft seal types use rubber or PTFE soft lining to seal. Hard seal models can handle extreme heat and high pressure, but soft liners will warp or break down at high temperatures. Soft seal valves seal much better at normal temperature, though their soft inner parts wear fast when hot media passes through. Hard sealing surfaces are scratch-resistant but demand higher machining accuracy during production.

Constant back-and-forth opening and closing scrapes the metal sealing faces little by little, and sealing will get worse over years of use. They are also heavier and bulkier than soft seal valves of the same size.
