Working principle

Globe Valve, also known as a stop valve, is one of the most widely used types of valves. It is so popular because during the opening and closing process, the friction between the sealing surfaces is small, it is relatively durable, the opening height is not large, the manufacturing process is easy, and maintenance is convenient. It is not only suitable for medium and low pressure, but also for high pressure.

The closing principle of Globe Valve is that it uses the pressure of the valve lever to make the sealing surface of the valve disc closely adhere to the sealing surface of the valve seat, thereby preventing the flow of the medium.

The Globe Valve only allows the medium to flow in one direction and has a directional requirement during installation. The structural length of the Globe Valve is longer than that of the Gate Valve. At the same time, the fluid resistance is high, and its sealing reliability is not strong over a long period of operation.

Characteristics

(1) The structure of the Globe Valve is simpler than that of the Gate Valve, and both manufacturing and maintenance are more convenient.

(2) The sealing surface is not prone to wear or scratching. It has excellent sealing performance. During the opening and closing process, there is no relative sliding between the valve disc and the sealing surface of the valve body. Therefore, neither wear nor scratching is severe, and the sealing performance is good with a long service life.

(3) During opening and closing, the stroke of the valve disc is small, so the height of the Globe Valve is smaller than that of the Gate Valve, but its structural length is longer than that of the Gate Valve.

(4) The opening and closing torque is large, making the operation strenuous and taking a long time.

(5) High fluid resistance. Due to the tortuous path of the medium in the valve body, the fluid resistance is high, resulting in significant power consumption.

(6) When the nominal pressure PN of the medium flow direction is ≤ 16 MPa, the normal flow direction is upward from the bottom of the valve disc; when the nominal pressure PN is ≥ 20 MPa, the normal flow direction is downward from the top of the valve disc. This is to enhance the sealing performance. During use, the medium of the Globe Valve can only flow in one direction and cannot change the flow direction.

(7) When fully open, the valve disc is often subject to erosion.

The valve stem axis of Globe Valve is perpendicular to the sealing surface of the valve seat. The stroke for opening or closing the valve is relatively short, and it has a very reliable cutting action, making this type of valve suitable for use as a cut-off or regulation and throttling of the medium.
